JBS has vision to develop commercial agro-farming by accelerating the capacity of local farmer of Nepal. JBS has been implementing agriculture activities under the Jeevan Bikas Park and nearby villages of Morang district. It has been providing skill trainings and orientation focusing on vegetable farming and cereal crops to its clients and their family member as per need/ demand of microfinance group members. It has been developing organic vegetable farming center inside the Jeevan Bikas Park, where different kinds of seasonal vegetables are grown and is a center of attraction for all the visitors. JBS has aimed to demonstrate the center to those who are interested in commercial vegetable farming and provide them technical support to develop sound and effective agro farming. Primarily, it has concentrated on two major fields. They are;
Seed Production Program: The seed production initiative is aimed at enhancing family food security for rice growing farmers by improving their rice yields through the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technology. Under this program, JBS provides rice seeds to the farmers at effective rate and encourages them to do farming by SRI method. The agriculture technician associated with the program guides and provides necessary suggestions throughout the phase. Apart from that, JBS also piloted Seed Sowing Machine, Solar Water Pump and Rice Transplanter Machine for the first time in Amahi Bariyati VDC. The use of modern technology in the farming was warmly appreciated by the local people.
Ghar Aangan Tarkari Kheti (Kitchen Gardening) Program: Under this program, a variety of seeds of seasonal vegetables are offered to the members at economical rate. Likewise, training are also provided on how fresh vegetables can be grown at low cost even at small and congested place like roof tops or courtyard.
Jeevan Bikas Samaj(Profit Not Distributing company):Jeevan Bikas Samaj has established Jeevan Bikas Samaj (a profit not distributing company) with the objective of making Nepal self-sufficient in food by increasing Nepal’s agricultural production. The company continues to modernize the agricultural sector by encouraging agricultural mechanization and is providing training and tools to the farmers in the region to increase production. The company is currently cultivating in about 200 bighas of land with its own resources to encourage chaklabandi farming. Under the leadership of this company, there is a plan to export vegetables and other food items in order to get the fair price of vegetables and other food grains produced by the farmers.
